PASTOR’S MESSAGE

DEAR PARISHIONERS AND FRIENDS IN CHRIST

As we move into Phase III re-opening of the coronavirus, guidelines for public Masses and other liturgies again do not involve major changes.  The same principles apply in Phase III as did in both Phases I and II: maintaining social distance (six feet), wearing masks, and proper hygiene and sanitizing.  Hand sanitizers are located on the tables at the doors of the church.

Church occupancy in Phase III has now increased to 75% of a church’s occupancy limit.  However, social distancing of six feet is still required, except for family/household grouping.  Every other pew inside the Cathedral continues to be roped off to maintain social distancing.

Until further notice, all Catholics in the Diocese of Alexandria remain dispensed from their obligation to attend Sunday Mass.  Persons who are at-risk, ill, or experiencing symptoms consistent with the coronavirus should be encouraged to not attend Mass.

The inside of the church will continue to be disinfected after every Mass.  Holy Water fonts are to remain empty and dry.  We will continue to distribute single-use handouts of readings and hymns prior to Mass.

The clergy and other ministers are required to wear a mask during the distribution of Holy Communion. Other liturgical ministers should wear masks and properly distanced.

The sign of peace is omitted and the chalice with the Precious Blood may not be distributed.

Thank you for your continued support and understanding.  I wish you and your loved ones continued blessing of good health, peace and the love of God.

Sincerely yours in Christ, Fr. Ferguson
